Cork is a county in the south of Ireland; in fact it is the most southern county in the whole of the island of Ireland. Cork is also the largest of the modern counties and has a total population in excess of 480,000. Cork is also part of the province of Munster and its main city is Cork City; which is the capital of the province, and the second largest city in the Republic of Ireland.
Cork has several attractions including the Blarney Stone, where people come from all over to kiss the famous stone as it is said that the Blarney stone gives you’ the gift of the gab’ in other words an ability to talk well. Another key destination is Cobh formerly called Queenstown and this was the port where many Irishmen left Ireland for their voyages to either Australia or the USA.
Cork is seen as a naturally beautiful county with plentiful beaches and a social atmosphere that many tourists find distinctive. In the last number of years, it has become a haven for many in the EU as well as a number of celebrities. It is also a county that is home to many playwrights, poets and artists, such is the inspiration of the county.
